Angel Lights Co_ Blog Post_ Fragrances & Pure Essential Oils to avoid around pets_120821

The upcoming holiday period is a time to spend with loved ones both human and furry. However, some common holiday scents can be dangerous for our pet companions. Here are a few tips to keep Fido and Fluffy safe and healthy while still enjoying the festive smells of the season.
Many candle fragrances are perfectly fine for people but contain essential oils toxic to pets. When burning scented candles, it is best to give dogs and cats some space. Keep them in another room with the door closed. You can also put your scented candles up high, out of paw's reach, to avoid curious pets getting too close.

Certain essential oils should be avoided altogether when pets are present. For cats, steer clear of cinnamon, citrus, clove, bergamot, basil, eucalyptus, geranium, lavender, oregano, peppermint, pennyroyal, pine oils, spruce, tea tree, thyme, and wintergreen. Dogs don't do well with clove, eucalyptus, garlic, geranium, juniper, pennyroyal, pine oils, rosemary, tea tree, thyme, and wintergreen. Even birds can have issues with tea tree, peppermint, tree oils like eucalyptus and pine, hot oils like cinnamon and clove, and citronella.

The holidays are all about togetherness, so with a little awareness of potential dangers, you can keep your furry friends safe and healthy while still enjoying festive scents. Your pets will thank you for prioritizing their well-being so they can fully take part in all the holiday fun too!
